Fife couple Lizzy Aitken and Chris Shields have won a ‘Wedding to Remember’ as part of a fundraising competition raising funds for charities Remember my Baby and The Brain Tumour Charity.

The competition was organised by photographer Jenn Knox who spoke to a variety of wedding suppliers and organised the amazing prize of a wedding at Balmule House with catering by The Edinburgh Catering Company on Friday 5th October 2018 with a prize value in excess of £16,000.

The competition started in August 2017, couples were asked to raise money for two charities, ‘Remember My Baby’ and ‘The Brain Tumour Charity’, with the couple who fundraised the most money winning a wedding including everything from the venue and catering to pre-wedding gym memberships. The couple who had raised the most money by 28th February 2018 won the wedding.

Jenn chose charities which were close to her heart. She is a volunteer photographer with Remember My Baby “They provide professional photographs to parents who sadly don’t leave hospital with their babies. At the moment there are only a handful of volunteer photographers in Scotland so I wanted to help raise the charity’s profile, while fundraising at the same time.” The second charity, The Brain Tumour Charity, also has specific meaning to Jenn as she currently has a friend being supported by them.

The competition winners, Lizzy and Chris got involved in the competition as they themselves lost a baby in 2009, when they had twin sons Cohen and Caillen. Caillen, sadly passed away from a brain haemorrhage when he was only 3 days old. Lizzy commented “When Caillen passed away there wasn’t an amazing charity like ‘Remember my Baby’, so we would like to raise money and awareness for such a great cause.”

The couple initially set up a fundraising target of £5,000 however their personal total is nearer £10,000. Taking into account fundraising from the other couples who entered, the grand total to be split between both charities is a staggering £20,000.

Duncan Sanders from Balmule House commented “when Jenn approached us to about donating Balmule House as the wedding venue to be included as part of the prize, we were only too willing to be help. Balmule is like a home away from home and we’re looking forward to welcoming Chris and Lizzys’ family and friends to celebrate at Balmule House.”

Jenn who organised the whole competition, including the prize worth over £16,000 commented “I’m overwhelmed to have been involved with raising so much money for two great charities. I’m really looking forward to working with Chris and Lizzy on their wedding day and, along with all the other great businesses who have supported this, to give them a Wedding to Remember! My best friend Paul has a brain tumour and is currently being cared for in a hospice. This is such a lovely positive thing to focus on and Paul and his family are over the moon with the efforts of everyone involved in raising such a phenomenal amount. I want to send out a big thank you to the suppliers, the couples who registered and of course everyone who put their hand in their pocket and donated. Thank you!”
