Outlander, the hit TV series written by Diana Gabaldon has taking the world by storm. Balmule House is in the heart of Outlander’s country and the perfect based for touring the Outlander filming locations in Central Scotland.
The show was filmed across multiple historical places in Fife and surrounding area, including these castles and towns:
Falkland is where Inverness was filmed for Outlander. This is where the guest house wherein Frank and Claire stayed for the night before they went out to venture for the highlands. Falklands is such a well-preserved town, which gives it its extra charm which is very unique to the region. Aside from being the location for Inverness, it has a lot of other attractions that you can enjoy upon your visit such as golfing, ballooning, fishing, visiting historical sites and shopping.
Culross is where the village of Cranesmuir was filmed. Visiting the town and walking through its alleys will indeed take you back in time. Scotland has worked tremendously hard to preserve its past and you will appreciate that as you visit Culross. If you take a tour of Culross, you will be able to visit Claire’s herbs garden, Jamie’s childhood home and other buildings that were shown in Outlander.
The first inhabitant of Duone Castle was Robert Stewart. He was the ruler of Scotland and the first Duke of Albany. For a long period of time, it was believed that the castle was built specifically for Albany. However, recent research has shown that it was indeed built upon the foundation of other castles which was then incorporated in the building of the Doune Castle itself. Because of its marvellous architecture, Doune Castle has become the favourite location for a lot of TV and movie productions including Outlander.
The team at Balmule can recommend tour guides for a tour of the various locations or we have also teamed up with local cookery school, Courses for Cooks, for an outlander cookery course.
